Mt. Everest Base Camp Trek

Home / Nepal / Attractions / Mt. Everest Base Camp Trek

Mt. Everest remains one of the most beautiful places to visit in Nepal. Form here you can experience the wonders of nature with views of mountain peaks and dramatic hills. The trek passes through ridges and trails and on the way you stop at various stopovers to rest and explore the nature sprawling around. You spot tiny villages dotted around where happy locals are eager to help you if you are lost.

The trek can be enjoyed in all seasons; however, snow sometimes makes trekking difficult. Summer months of April and May are ideal to experience the trees and shrubs blossoming here especially Rhododendrons. This makes the surroundings extremely colorful and soothing to the eyes. Post monsoon is also a great time to enjoy the trek when the rain showers wash away the terrain, making it look greener.

Numerous lodges have been opened during the route to let trekkers have a whale of a time. It should be remembered that most of the lodges and restaurants in the Khumbu region only accept the Nepalese currency. Lodges in lower regions are cheaper than those in the higher regions.

Nights here are extremely cold and thus, it is advised to carry thick woolen clothes. While preparing for the trek, do pack hiking boots, warm clothes and UV sun-block. It is advisable not to carry heavy luggage as it becomes difficult to carry it to the altitude. Do carry water bottles and you can always refill them from fresh river water flowing during the journey. Also do carry a light weight knapsack to fit your camera and other light items. If you are planning to sleep in open, then sleeping bag is a must. Also pack some common medicines and band- aids.

Porters are available for travelers who do not want to carry their luggage themselves. Most porters are from local villages and know the area well. Thus, they can be a good assistance during your expedition too.

Partaking in this trek is a beautiful experience. You discover some unseen treasures of nature and colorful Tibetan Buddhist cultures. The route is dotted with many remote mountain monasteries where you can stop to unwind and refuel yourself for the journey ahead.
