Bodnath Stupa signifies Buddha’s path of enlightenment. All its elements represent something deep and significant. The plinth represents earth, the kumbha represents water, the harmika represents fire, the spire represents air and the umbrella represents the void. The spire features 13 levels, each showing different stages of a human’s life to conquer nirvana.
Around the base of the stupa, 108 tiny images of the Dhyani Buddha Amitabha have been kept. The number 108 is auspicious as per Tibetan culture. As you reach the gateway at the north, you will arrive at the upper level of the plinth where a small shrine dedicated to Hariti (Ajima) is placed. From here visitors can enjoy stunning vistas of nature while cherishing heart pleasing winds.
